Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 4, 2026
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Outside collects, uses, and shares information when you use our Service. Outside helps people discover and join real-world activities nearby. We take privacy seriously and design the product so you stay in control of what you share.
2. Information We Collect
Account & profile information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and password (stored securely by our authentication provider). During onboarding and profile setup we may collect your name, birthday, gender, home city or region, profile photo, bio, and optional social links.
Activity information. When you create or join an activity we store titles, descriptions, dates and times, meeting spots, visibility settings, join requests, attendance status, comments, attendee chat messages, and related coordination details you choose to share.
Approximate location. Outside uses city- and region-level location information to help you discover nearby activities and to set the area for activities you create. We do not require continuous GPS tracking to use the core Service.
Guest information. If you continue as a guest, we collect the first name you provide and associate temporary access with a single activity.
Safety information. If you submit a report or block another user, we store that information so we can enforce safety features and review reports.
Usage & device data. Like most online services, we may collect basic technical information such as browser type, device type, and approximate request metadata needed to operate and secure the Service.
3. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve Outside
- Authenticate accounts and prevent abuse
- Show relevant activities and profiles
- Send in-app notifications about activity updates
- Send transactional emails such as verification and password reset
- Review reports and enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines
- Comply with legal obligations
4. Notifications
Outside may send in-app notifications when someone comments on an activity you're part of, joins or requests to join your activity, or when coordination details change. You can manage many of these preferences in Settings → Notifications. Transactional emails related to account security may still be sent when necessary.
5. Cookies & Local Storage
We use cookies and similar technologies (including local and session storage) to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and support core product features. These are primarily essential for authentication and app functionality rather than third-party advertising.
6. Third-Party Services
We use trusted service providers to operate Outside, including:
- Supabase — authentication, database, storage, and realtime features
- Vercel — application hosting and delivery
- Email providers (such as Resend or similar) — for verification and account emails
These providers process data on our behalf under contractual obligations. They are not permitted to use your information for their own unrelated marketing.
7. Sharing of Information
Profile details and activity content you choose to make visible may be seen by other users according to privacy and visibility settings. We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose information if required by law, to protect safety, or in connection with a business transfer such as a merger or acquisition.
8. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and meet legal requirements. Guest sessions and related temporary data may be removed when guest access ends.
9. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete certain personal information. You can update much of your profile information in Settings. To request additional help, contact outsidefriendsapp@gmail.com.
You can block users, report content, and adjust notification preferences from Settings.
10. Children
Outside is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us so we can take appropriate action.
11. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the effective date when changes are posted. Continued use of Outside after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.
12. Contact
Privacy questions can be sent to outsidefriendsapp@gmail.com.
